I have not written in a while. I do apologize but, with spring fever, march break and a super busy schedule, things don't always go as planned. My post today is on reading labels. I was in the health food store they other day and I really had a good laugh. There was this super friendly lady that made me laugh. She was talking to herself as she looked at the organic processed meats...She picked it up and said, "Corn Syrup - why does this have corn syrup in it, I thought it was supposed to be healthy?" Then she kept reading, meat flavoring - what is that?" By that time, I was killing myself, laughing, I looked at her and said, "If I were you, I would put it down and walk away!" - Read your labels, people - marketing can be very tricky and deceiving.
On another visit I found this raw dip in the raw food section. The first ingrediant was cooked black beans? Okay, what part of cooked black beans is raw?
My son has issues with many foods, like me so my Mom had bought him some rice cheese. Sounded great lactose and soy free! Well, on closer look - after we bought it, darn it - we realized that although it was lactose and soy free it was NOT dairy free! It has milk ingrediants and milk protein.
We have to be educated consumers, just because something says natural, raw or organic - does not mean necessarily that it is. You need to really learn to read the entire label. There might only be one ingrediant that is orgnaic or raw. Read the fine print as well.
I have been have some real tummy troubles lately, I am too the point where honestly, I would give anything to be able to eat anything. For me, raw has been wonderful, but even within the raw world there are many things that I can not eat. It is very frustrating when first off I can not eat, meat, eggs, dairy, soy or wheat. Then after eating totally raw I still encounter things that I can not eat. I just want to feel good and not have to worry so much. It is hard shopping one way for 4 members or your family and then shopping a different way of me. A little costly at that.
I am really looking forward to the summer, local farmers markets and a garden!
I have been speaking to many people lately who have celiac disease who can not even eat raw vegetables. It boggles me with the amount of allergies and sensetivities that exist in this day and age, what are we doing to the food we eat...

I started my day off with a green smoothie- Kale, Peaches, Vanilla Protein Powder and filtered water. I am now enjoying my green lunch. Spinach, avocado and cucumber...Yummy! I usually cut my avocado in large slices, but today I tried to shave them. In my mind it seems like more, as it is distributed better. I love avocado! I feel amazing when I eat a lot of greens!
2 Cups Peaches
1 Cup Kale
3 Cups Filtered Water
1 large Scoop Protein Powder
What greens have you been eating lately? Do you find you have more energy when you eat a lot of greens?

Time, time, time - why doesn't there ever seen like there is enough time. The sun is shining this morning and I am getting excited for Spring! I can not wait to start planning for my garden, buying organic seeds and mapping out what we will grow!
Oh, and visits to the local market are starting to make my mouth water! I will post some photo's tomorrow. I will be making some yummy raw soups! My favourite is Raw Cucumber soup!
I have mentioned this before. I can not get used to the "earthy taste," of sprouted beans. So this salad is not raw, but it is a nice vegetarian option. My children ate it and I was excited.

1/2 Red Pepper (Diced Small)
2 Stalks Organic Celery (Diced Small)
Cook beans as per package directions. After Cool place in mixing bowl. Mixed diced vegetables in. Add dressing and let sit in the refrigerator overnight. Serve on a bed of spinach.
1 Cup Raw Pineapple Juiced
2 Tsp Curry Powder
1/4 Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 Tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
Blend all ingredients until smooth.
My sister in law was over a few weeks ago and she made an amazing raw cheese cake. I was able to get a photo when it was done. Make sure to check out her site, she has a lot of great ideas. www.blyssfulhealth.com.
